Description:

Background

Nature’s Academy is a nonprofit environmental education organization that provides field trips in Florida. Our mission is to enhance STEM literacy and foster environmental stewardship through inquiry-driven programs. Our programs take place primarily at Fort De Soto Park in Pinellas County, Florida, and at various other places for our overnight programs!

Project Description

The Nature’s Academy Environmental Steward Internship allows college students and recent college graduates to gain valuable, hands on experience working in environmental and marine science education. Interns have the opportunity to work alongside our lead educators while gaining experience with organizing, teaching and leading educational programs.


Requirements:

Qualifications

Interns must hold an undergraduate degree or be currently enrolled university students pursuing a degree in a related discipline (i.e. marine science, biology, environmental science, education). All interns must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a criminal background check. Additional requirements include: • Comfortable speaking with the general public (adults and children) • Detailed oriented and organized • Self-motivated and willing to try new things • Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule • Willingness to work outdoors in Florida’s heat, rain and wind • Experience working in an informal education setting (plus) • CPR/First Aid/Lifeguard certified (plus)

Timetable

Our spring internship program runs from March 1st through June 30th. A minimum commitment of 30 hrs/wk for 6 weeks is required. Interns will have the opportunity to assist in day and overnight programs.

Internship Stipend

Minimal stipend available.
