Description:

The Bald Head Island Conservancy Intern Program is open to rising juniors, seniors or recent graduates from any accredited college or university. The internship program is designed to provide young professionals with hands-on work experience in the conservation field at a non-profit organization. Interns will spend 3 months living and working in the unique setting of Bald Head Island, a sustainably developed island with a community dedicated to living in harmony with nature. Stipend and housing provided. 

There are five concentrations for BHI Conservancy Intern Program: Communications • Conservation • Education • Retail • Sea Turtle Protection 

Please note that education has the most openings and all positions will have a chance to cross-train with the other concentrations.

Requirements:

APPLICATION DEADLINE: 01/15/2017 The Sea Turtle Program Coordinator supervises the sea turtle interns. The sea turtle interns will assume the following responsibilities: 5. Sea Turtle Intern Description (5-6 Positions)

1. Conduct nightly beach patrols on foot or via all terrain vehicles in order to intercept, tag and monitor nesting sea turtles and their nests. For a description of the sea turtle protection program visit bhic.org/sea-turtle-protection-program

2. Assist in the response of sea turtle strandings including participation in necropsies as needed. For a description visit bhic.org/injured-wildlife Please send questions and applications to: intern@bhic.org

• Rank of intern positions in preference order for which you would like to be considered

• Cover letter highlighting how participation will further: a) your academic goals, b) personal goals, and c) utilize your strong interpersonal and public speaking skills

• A resume including your graduation date, list of any relevant coursework with respective grades • A list of three references We must receive your application for 2017 summer internships by January 15, 2017
