Emergency update regarding the use of batteries for sensor power
If a company elects to provide their own surface battery packs for their temperature sensor, the battery packs must meet the following specifications:
1. Dry Cell batteries are acceptable under the following conditions
a. 9V, AAA, AA, C and D. In addition, 6V Dry Cell lantern battery.
b. In no case can series connections exceed a nominal voltage of 12VDC.
c. Batteries must be contained in a housing and not dangling loose.
d. Location of the 3 amp (or lower) fuse must be visible to the safety inspectors.
e. Batteries must be non-rechargeable alkaline type
2. Wet Cell: 6V or 12V lead acid batteries are acceptable under the following conditions
a. Size: 3AH or smaller
b. Housed in an enclosure designed to protect the battery from damage
c. Fuse must be visible to the safety inspectors
d. nominal voltage not to exceed 12VDC
e. All connections are secure.
3. In no instances will Lithium-ion batteries be allowed.
All battery systems must be included at the safety inspection. All independent temperature sensors minus the last meter of tether will be included in the vehicle size and weight process.
